Does the head overheat?

In this case, the heat may be caused by the flange screws being over-tightened. Check the maximum torque allowed in the instruction manual or engraved directly on the flange.

  • a) The speed may be too high (especially during the run-in phase).
  • b) Check that the machining parameters do not exceed the head’s capacity. The technical data of the various head models can be found in the catalogue or on the test form. You can check the cutting forces on our online calculator or contact our technical department.

Does the head vibrate?

Is the head noisy?

Follow the step-by-step instructions in the manual for installing the stop block in the machine. Installation may need to be repeated.

Always use the counter spanner when locking/unlocking the tool as using only one spanner may impact the gears and damage them. Check the instruction manual.

Check the correct installation of the pin and stop-dowel by checking whether you have left too much space. As a result, the pin is not sufficiently pressed into the hollow screw and is banging against the orientation ring.

Is the head placed incorrectly?

Follow the instructions in the manual. The head must be loaded smoothly into the machine spindle. Installation may need to be repeated.

Check the position of the stop-dowel and its correct installation. Depending on whether it is too close or too far from the machine spindle, the head may be loaded by the tool changer incorrectly.

Check the height of the pin and whether it pushes against the dowel. Be careful to leave 0.5 to 1.0 mm of air as suggested in the instruction manual.
In both cases, there may be visible rub marks on the pin or even on the head cone. Installation may need to be repeated.

Does the inlet cone turn but the tool holder doesn’t?

Does the head have an excessive runout on the tool-holder spindle?

The bearings may have lost their preload and triggered vibrations. Please contact our service department.

In the case of ER collet chucks, check that the ring nut is not damaged and is tightened correctly. Also, check that the collet size is correct so that the tool shank is tightened correctly.

The head is particularly damaged (only for heads with manual flange mounting: modular type)

The installation/mounting of the adapter ring may be incorrect. As a result, the bearings are damaged. Check the correct installation in the instruction manual paying attention to:

  • The cone supplied must NOT be screwed onto the head.
  • The dimension “X” between the supplied universal flange and the machine spindle is correct. Installation may need to be repeated (and the spacer).
